Bioprofile, a history closely linked to that of Pyrocarbon…

1960

Pyrocarbon starts at the CEA Grenoble (French Atomic Energy Commission),
issued from the joint development with its American partner, General Atomic

Even if it was mainly used for its resistance to temperatures higher than 2000°C, we were far from imagining its medical properties !

1968

Implantation of the 1st heart valve using Pyrocarbon,
that solves in a revolutionary way thrombogenicity and wear problems.

This mechanical heart valve including Pyrocarbon becomes the universal model and more than 2 millions of patients have now received this surgery.

1979

Implantation of a series of metacarpo-phalangeal implants using  PyC / PyC couple
(Mayo-Clinic, USA)

1994

Development of the 1st proximal scaphoid pole in Pyrocarbon (APSI)
by Bioprofile's future founders

It demonstrates the exceptional properties of the Pyrocarbon in direct contact with bone and cartilage : no wear and no pain.

1999

Set up of Bioprofile by 3 founders, coming from a CEA industrial subsidiary

2001

Bioprofile obtained its Certification ISO 9002 – ISO 13488

2002

Bioprofile obtained its Certification ISO 9001 – ISO 13485
CE Mark and launching of a range of Pyrocarbon implants:

• STPI (STT arthritis)

  • PI2 (trapezectomy)
  • RCPI (wrist arthroplasty)
  • MoPyC (radial-head prosthesis)

2004

New facilities with installation of Bioprofile's own production reactor

2005

Bioprofile join the American Group Nexa Orthopedics

(Industrial specialized on implants solutions for foot and extremities surgery)

2007

Bioprofile Nexa join the Tornier Group

(Orthopedic Industry Pioneer - World Leader on Shoulder Surgery and specialist on the ranges Hip, Knee, Elbow and Ankle)

Bioprofile today :

A dynamic and resourceful team

that has built up its knowledge and its know-how during several years working in collaboration with the CEA

A technological platform in-house
